US billionaire Elon Musk claimed on Saturday that despite the resources devoted to defending the system, Russia is attempting to “destroy” Starlink satellite services in Ukraine.
The sole operational communications system at the front lines is Starlink; all others have been destroyed. Russia is attempting to aggressively destroy Starlink. SpaceX has devoted significant resources to defense in order to be safe. Nevertheless, Starlink might still fail, according to Musk’s tweet.
In September, SpaceX informed the US Defense Department that it could no longer contribute its Starlink services to Ukraine and asked for US funding in its place. According to a SpaceX study, the business has donated more than $120 million in Starlink services to Ukraine this year, and it anticipates that continuing to do so might cost as much as $400 million in 2019.
The US Defense Department is “in discussion” with SpaceX regarding the Starlink satellite services for Ukraine, according to Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh on Friday. The official noted that in order to deliver crucial services to Ukraine, the US might collaborate with SATCOM organizations other than SpaceX.
A new generation satellite network called Starlink is intended to offer global broadband internet access. The idea was introduced by SpaceX in February 2018. According to an announcement made by Elon Musk in September, Starlink satellite internet service is now accessible on every continent.
Mykhailo Fedorov, the minister of digital transformation for Ukraine, requested that Musk send Starlink stations and satellite internet to his country on February 26. Following that, Musk declared that the Starlink service was running in Ukraine and pledged to send more terminals there. More than 2,300 Starlink satellites have been put into orbit by SpaceX.
