Over the last week, 16 players and club staff have tested positive for coronavirus, according to the Premier League. Between August 16 and 22, the Premier League conducted 3,060 tests in two rounds, with 12 positive cases in the first round and four more in the second.
After nine positive instances in the first week and 11 in the week ending August 15, the figure has risen again.
The Premier League will continue to assess players twice a week.
This season, it will conduct weekly testing using lateral flow tests, with only those who receive a positive result undergoing a PCR test to validate the result.
The number of “core” individuals being examined at each club has climbed from 85 to 100, according to the league. Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic and Arsenal defender Ben White both missed Sunday’s triumph over Arsenal after testing positive for the virus.
