The scrap merchants and onion sellers of Agbogbloshie are being transferred to Adjen Kotoku to assist relieve congestion in Accra’s central business district (CBD) as part of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey’s, “Make Accra Work” agenda.

According to Graphic Online reporter Joshua Bediako Koomson, they were hurling stones at security guards, who responded by firing rounds to disperse the crowd.

According to Graphic Online, the sellers lit ablaze spent car tyres in protest of their eviction from the site, saying they had not been provided with an eviction notice.

“They also began burning tyres,” he continued.

He said that the operation to transport onion sellers and scrap dealers to Adjen Kotoku was calm until they arrived at the scrapyard.

The scrap merchants claimed that they had not been provided with a notice to evacuate the premises.

“As a result, the military was forced to interfere by firing warning shots to disperse them,” he explained.
