In response to a Los Angeles federal jury awarded the actress $6.3 million in October, State Farm recently filed a motion for a new trial. State Farm’s failure to cover damages to Doherty’s Malibu house following the 2018 Woolsey Fire was determined to be “unreasonable and without proper cause” by the jury.

The $6.3 million award comprised $3 million for mental anguish, $1 million in legal fees, and $460,000 in back pay.

During the prior trial, State Farm denied any misconduct on the part of the company. The insurance allegedly claimed to have paid Doherty $1.2 million, including luxurious living expenses while her fire-damaged property was being renovated.

State Farm does not agree with the ruling, according to new court documents obtained by RadarOnline.

“Her emotional evidence that State Farm’s claim payments totalling over $1.2 million were insufficient and that State Farm’s treatment of her claim distressed her worked with the jury,” the insurer claimed in its amended petition.
