Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has stated that Ghanaian teachers are among the best trained and dedicated in the world.
The Minister credited this achievement to the recent winning of international accolades and nominations of several Ghanaian teachers by foreign agencies, and pledged the Government’s commitment to continue improving the welfare of all teachers in the country.
When a delegation from the National Teaching Council (NTC) paid him a courtesy call in Accra on Tuesday, Dr. Adutwum made the observation.
The courtesy call, which was conducted by NTC Registrar Dr Christian Addae Poku, was intended to introduce the Senior High School, which is 43 years old.
The applicant, a mathematics teacher at Achimota SHS in Accra, was named the Ghana Teacher Prize’s overall best teacher for the SHS category last year.
In a brief speech, Dr. Adutwum praised the candidate, saying, “Congratulations, you have made the nation proud with this achievement.”
As he entered the final stretch of the competition, set for November 10th, 2021, he assured him of the government’s support.
In his introductory remarks, NTC Registrar Dr Addae Poku praised the Minister for his unwavering support for the NTC and other national education programs.
Mr Evans Odei expressed gratitude to the Minister and other stakeholders for their different contributions and dedication to the country’s educational progress.
He promised to put in extra effort in November to win the final award.
The candidate urged all teachers to devote more time to their students.
The Ghana National Teacher Prize has been held by the National Teaching Council since 2018, in which the top ten teachers in the country compete for several teacher honors at an international level.
As a result, the country has received several notable honors, with some of the professors receiving awards from other countries.
The nominee, who has been teaching for 21 years, spent four years teaching Mathematics and pre-technical topics before enrolling in a mathematics degree program at the University of Cape Coast.
Mr. Odei, who now teaches at Achimota Senior High School, spent the previous 13 years teaching mathematics at the Swedru School of Business.
Notable among the innovations he has brought into the teaching field are compilation of Mathematics topics in both core and elective maths into power points for presentations in class.
He has self-recorded videos of himself as he presents lessons on google classroom and on YouTube for free use by people across the whole world.
He adds pictures and videos in his presentations to make the teaching and learning of the subject pragmatic and full of fun for his students.
